"Poland. More than you expected" by Hubert Hurkacz

‘Poland. More than you expected.’ Choose Poland and get to know more about the places recommended by Hubert Hurkacz, the number one Polish tennis player, Poland's ambassador for the campaign ‘Promoting Poland through sport and sporting events’ and one of the most recognisable Polish athletes in the world.

Poland is becoming more attractive as a tourist destination and more popular every year. Over 80% of visitors come from Europe. Visitors from abroad come to Poland not only for holidays, but also more willingly and increasingly often for occasions such as cultural or sporting events. Poland is friendly, family-oriented, safe, and competitive in many aspects of its tourist attractions.

Get to know some of them. Hubert Hurkacz invites you to Zakopane in the Lesser Poland and to his hometown of Wrocław in Lower Silesia.

Zakopane in the Lesser Poland. This is where Hubert Hurkacz recharges his batteries at least once a year before the next tennis season, taking advantage of the rich sport infrastructure.

Zakopane is the largest city in the immediate vicinity to the Tatra Mountains, a major winter sports centre, commonly referred to as the winter capital of Poland, and the Tatra Mountains, at the foot of which Zakopane lies, are the highest range in the Carpathian chain, also the highest between the Alps and the Urals and Caucasus Mountains. The high-altitude areas of the Tatras are unique in Poland and rank in the highest category of natural attractions. The Tatras are protected by the establishment of the Polish Tatra National Park and the Slovakian Tatra National Park, as well as by their membership in the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves. The highest peak of the Tatra Mountains in Poland is Rysy (2501 m). Well-prepared hiking trails lead to the summit, offering spectacular views, including a breathtaking panorama of the Morskie Oko (Sea Eye) Lake.

And when you want to hear the sounds of a big city, but one that doesn't rush as much as Poland's capital, Warsaw, visit Hubert Hurkacz's hometown – Wrocław. It is the third largest city in Poland by population (after Warsaw and Kraków).

Wrocław is brimming with attractions, of which Hubert Hurkacz particularly recommends:

• Panorama of the Battle of Racławice - an art museum in Wrocław, where the cycloramic painting The Battle of Racławice is displayed. The painting was created between 1893 and 1894 by a team of painters led by Jan Styka and Wojciech Kossak (the latter was the author of many paintings depicting events from the Napoleonic Wars and the November Uprising, as well as genre scenes, portraits, and horses). The oil painting depicts the Battle of Racławice (1794).

• Centennial Hall - the pearl of Wrocław modernism, unites generations. It is a place frequented by the city's inhabitants, tourists and lovers of architecture and urban planning. Organisers of major cultural, sporting and business events from all over the world strive to rent its unique spaces. The inclusion of the complex on the UNESCO List of World Heritage Sites in 2006 confirmed the special status of the buildings and spaces that are a showcase of modern Lower Silesia and Wrocław.

• Environmental Education Center ‘Hydropolis’ - a centre of knowledge about water. It is the only facility of its kind in Poland and one of very few in the world. The exhibition is located in a historic 19th century neo-Gothic underground reservoir of pure water with an area of 4,600 m². The facility has been listed as a historic monument since 2002 and combines educational values with a modern exhibition form.

Wrocław is called the Venice of the North. There are more than 100 bridges in the city, not to mention numerous footbridges.

The campaign ‘Promoting Poland through sport and sporting events’ includes nine advertising spots. The one featuring Hubert Hurkacz is the result of cooperation between the Polish Tennis Federation and the Polish Tourist Organisation (https://www.poland.travel/en/).
